Founded by Alphonse Pierlot in 1812, Laurent Perrier is a family-owned Champagne house with a long and rich history. Marie-Louise Lanson de Nonancourt, who managed the company during the Second World War, once hid 100,000 bottles behind a wall to protect them from German soldiers, and a couple of years later one of her sons, Army sergeant Bernard de Nonancourt, helped break into Hitler’s retreat in the Bavarian Alps – where he discovered half a million bottles of wine. Among them were several hundred cases of very expensive Champagne that he had watched being stolen five years earlier!
